Re:Poseidon's 90 gallon SPS Reef (permalink)
Check these out from yesterday:

It almost looks like shaving foam doesn't it?

After I cleaned out the skimmer and came upstairs the Mrs asked what the heck I did, WHAT STINKS SO BAD!!???  I we had to open windows, and I turned on the bathroom fan!  That fart fan is going to get added to the basement sooner, rather then later I am sure!

Re:Poseidon's 90 gallon SPS Reef (permalink)
Ya, it really is pulling out the nasties for sure.  The most impressive part to me is that I had a cone on here before, a BIG one, the 2S, which had 2 Sicce 2500's where this one has just one.  When I take a couple more pics of the neck and transition, you will be able to see how much smaller the bubble are in the neck then they were on day one.

Another thing that I find impressive is that we painted the living room the other day, and the skimmer just kept on chugging along.  I did a bag of carbon to the overflow, so all the water that reached the skimmer first had to pass the carbon and the fuge, but I had heard stories of skimmers going bonkers due to paint fumes/smells.

No casualities in the tank due to the painting either!  (The living room is a deep blue now, much more mellow then the WHITE it was before.)

DUDE!! That looks awesome!! I love the way the corals are inter-mixed up top, and that is one "healthy" looking Royal Gramma you have there too.

Nope, unless he/she is trying to hybridize with Anthias or Wrasses...

Re:Poseidon's 90 gallon SPS Reef (permalink)
I made a few changes to the sump over the last few days, I moved the T5's from the top tank in the sump, my 'fuge to the bottom, where I am going to keep some frags. Here are a couple pictures:

This is just a regular flood/spot light, I am going to replace it with a plant lamp soon.

Full sump shot. The T5's are off in this image, also there is something missing from the sump, anyone guess what it is?

Here it is....

My Reefkeeper Lite! I picked up a spare head unit and a 3rd PC4 since DA has put them on sale for $99. Usually a PC4 all by itself is $90, this sale made it a no brainer! Now I have my main lights on the controller as well, and I can have the lights go off if the temp gets to high, something that I could not do before.

And finally, a FTS showing my new living room wall color as well!

I like the BLUE!!!! Going from stark WHITE to the deep blue has a dramatic affect on the room for sure, it is very calming, and CHEAPER to change the paint then it is to buy new couches!

Re:Poseidon's 90 gallon SPS Reef (permalink)
Ok, I am 2 weeks into the new skimmer and the K2 shows no signs of slowing down!  These are images from just a little bit ago:

You can see some algae on the cone now, I moved the T5's from the fuge down, so I can have a frag rack in the sump.

Ewwwww!!!!!

This picture stinks, but you can see that below the VBT, there are NO BUBBLES, none.

2 weeks in and I continue to be VERY pleased with my purchase.  This is the right skimmer for me, it fits my bioload nicely and it stays busy all day.

If he did, I think this one ate the other one! [sm=wave.gif]

Mike your whole set-up is really looking great, and I like the new wall color. At first I couldn't figure out what that hand-shaped coral was, took me a minute to realize, but in the reflection you can be seen sitting on the couch taking that picture, with your right hand in the air. Comb your hair next time! And this is what I keep telling myself, "Mike's skimmer sux, I don't even remotely want one for myself. Rinse and repeat.....

LOL!!!!  Ya, you can see my white T-shirt, blue shorts... You are right!  DOH!

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the compliment.  I am planning an upgrade, to a starfire 120, but I keep thinking that a 36" wide tank would be so much cooler!  Doh, what to do!!!!

Re:Poseidon's 90 gallon SPS Reef (permalink)
LOL!  Yes, it does Mike.

I am 90% certain that it is going to be a 120, I have all the glass I need to build it, well minus one side that I chipped.  (SO MAD at myself)  Plus with a 120, I won't have to change my lighting, with a 180, (48x36x24H) I would need another fixture, or would have to build another larger one.  I don't think that is in the budget at the moment, unfortunately.  (Still looking for a new job, being unemployed stinks.)

So far all the stuff for the 120 has been acquired through trades or frag sales, so no money out of pocket.
