Frustrated - contemplating getting out.

Ever since I have moved, back in 08, my tank has barely survived.  Part of that, possible largely, is due to my lack of free time and when I have free time I spend most of that with the kids.  About a year ago in an attempt to make the tank less maintenance needy I switch some equipment around, including swaping halides for T5's.  Ever since I got these T5's I've had problems.  Every couple of months they go out on me.  Either  bulb dies, balast dies, unknow wiring problem and once I never understood and the lights just started working again.  Each time I don't notice for a week since I leave for work by 7:00 and get home around 8:00 ish, and thus never see if the lights turned on or not.  And, each time corals die.  In the last year I lost a few fish, which I've not lost in a long time.  I'm down to two fish, a Regal Angel and a Maroon - and virtually no coral.

I may just pack it in until  have time to devote to it.  I've not decided for certain yet.

Just needed to vent a bit.

Hang in there. What brand of lights are you using? Bulbs and fixture.
I got really frustrated with the high temps we had over the last few weeks. Only lost a few juveniles but it was very stressful keeping the systems cool without A/C. Too bad you can't attend the Workshop, it might energize you a bit.

I agree with Tal, hang in there.  Seems odd you are having issues with your T5's.  Might be a short somewhere in the fixture.  Might be time to switch to a reef capable led fixture(s).

Do you have the equipment to go back to halides?    If it worked for you no reason  not to use it.

Any ideas on the lost fish?

Why not just do fish only?
