I made some finishing touches to the lighting. 1) I added some florescent lighting over the BRTs (I was only able to find double fixtures). 2) I changed the lighting over the broodstock tanks. One of the original lights I had over the broodstock tanks was the room light. Which I had to turn on and off manually. That was starting to get old.

Since I have eggs that are waiting to hatch (Probably Wed or Thurs). I needed to put the finishing touches on my larval tanks. I added a heater and the started the airstone. Here are a couple pics of the larval tank in action.

You are going to put a 120m mesh screen around the stand pipe, right?

I was thinking about the temp issues we were talking about earlier, as well as trying to remember exactly how your basement is laid out... was there a door that leads into the breeding room, or is that an open walkway? In one pic it looks like I can see where hinges were removed. If you could close off the room a bit more that might help keep the temps up...? Just a thought.

Unfortunately there is not a door. I may try adjusting the placement of some of the heaters.

Breeding Setup 2.0 I have decided to redo the broodstock and growout areas of my system. I didn't like the fact that I could reach some of the tanks very well to clean them and the fact that I really didn't use my space effectively. Anyway, I tore out the old stand and built a new one with concrete block and wood. Here is pic of what it looks like right now. I might have to make some tweaks but the pic is the basic design.

I should have mentioned it above. The top tanks are 10 gallons for broodstock and the 20 gals are going to be the grow out tanks

Are those 2x6's laid flat? I've been thinking of doing the same thing with bricks - it just seems so much stronger, not to mention much quicker to set up! I'd even wager you could might be able to fix it in such a way as to be able to place a sump under the bottom as well. Keep the pictures coming!

Arc, they are three 2x8s laid flat and nailed together with 2 pieces of 1x4 on the bottom for each level. Not counting the time it took to purchase the material or remove the old stand (which was a PITA) it took about an hour. I don't have enough height to fit a sump on bottom, but you could design it that way if you wanted to.

Looks good, I'm no carpenter but I would make sure to watch for bowing on those 2x8's, if I remember correctly from the lessons learned from my pops, they bow easily laid down flat and are more rigid and inflexible on their edges. It looks like the top shelf should be fine, but I would watch the bottom shelf with the 20's on it. Might be fine, I could be paranoid, but I wouldn't want you to come find a disaster.

Today I have been able to finish a lot of the plumbing. I only have to install the intakes on the top row and plumb the system back to the pumps. Here are the latest pics Finally, one of the benefits of the block. Very easy to hang the inflow piping over the tanks
